There is nothing wrong with performing well. The issue is when we need the approval of others to feel good about ourselves. In the worst examples, we actually derive our identity from others. We are defined by what our parents think of us, our peers, and finally our spouse.
Take some time and ask God what he thinks of you. Let me know what you hear?

What does God think of me? I've been told that He unconditionally loves me - that I can never do anything more or less to change that. But I keep struggling with my performance based behavior that I learned from my childhood. This voice inside me seems to say.. if you perform well, then you are accepted and loved. Sometimes I even get caught in the comparision trap, which again, is not from God. Why is it always easier to know the truth than to actually walk it out in victory? I want that victory in Jesus!
